In the event that surface texture cannot be closely matched, fine aggregates can be added to the stain base to simulate the finish of the existing masonry.

The brick will benefit from a base coat of stain to help get close to the base color of the original masonry. These can be applied on top of the base coat in multiple passes. Look for water-based stains, especially for vertical surfaces, where acid stains may not be feasible. As most stains are somewhat transparent in nature, this will affect the final color matching results.
